Lebanon

Lebanon is a city rich in history and heritage with a warm welcome for travelers and visitors from all over the world. Known as the “Cedar City” for all the cedar trees that grow wild in the area, the town has become an oasis for travelers with restaurants and quaint inns throughout the downtown.

Visiting Lebanon is a step back in time to America's small town past. The famous Golden Lamb Inn is the focal point of historic downtown. Complementing the ambiance of the stately old hotel, the downtown shopping district is also home to a variety of antique and specialty shops. With its many points of interest, the “Cedar City” is becoming a popular tourist destination not only for Midwesterners, but also for those from other parts of the country.

The history of the region draws many to the area to take a journey back in time. The Warren County Historical Society owns and operates two museum properties in the town including Glendower Mansion and the Warren County History Center. The History Center is recognized as one of the nation’s premier county museums.

Lebanon is home to a stop on the LM&M Railroad where riders of the rails follow an old stagecoach route past meadows, pastures, a rippling creek and wildflowers.

We invite you to stroll our brick sidewalks and enjoy our shops and restaurants. Lebanon is easy to get to, so come spend a day ... or a lifetime. You can’t do better than Lebanon, Ohio!

The Village of New Concord

Schedule of Events

Tuesday, June 24

The Village of New Concord and surrounding villages within the East Muskingum School District were settled in the early 1800s by Scotch-Irish pioneers. This ethnic group places high values on the family unit and on the education of its children. Muskingum College was established by them, and they continue to support the local school system with exceptional pride. The concept that gave birth to OHIO CHAUTAUQUA finds a warm welcome in this climate.

JOHN GLENN BOYHOOD HOME
and MUSEUM

Experience history at the boyhood home of John Glenn, the first American to orbit the Earth and a native of the Village of New Concord. Learn about life during the Great Depression and the Home Front during World War II through a captivating living history presentation. In 2002, John Glenn’s boyhood home was moved back to Main Street in New Concord, OH and was restored as it was when he lived there until his enlistment in World War II. The astronaut and former senator once said that he and his wife Annie have lived through one third of American history. It is the Museum’s goal to bring those times to life for visitors to New Concord. The museum was the winner of the Eastern Ohio Development Alliance’s 2006 Excellence Award for Tourism and continually receives enthusiastic reviews from those visitors who say that it is much more than they expected. To schedule a visit, call (740) 826-3305.

MUSKINGUM COLLEGE

Since its founding in 1837, Muskingum has been a community of learners – people learning from and with other people. Muskingum’s mission is to educate the “whole person” – intellectually, spiritually, socially and physically – and it does so by meeting students where they are on the educational continuum, and by helping these students to progress to their maximum potential. Muskingum’s excellence is measured most significantly by its alumni, who have served the world as CEOs of major corporations, major media figures, scientists, educators, civic and religious leaders, and as parents and friends. With its natural beauty, charm and friendly faces, Muskingum College welcomes prospective students by offering personalized campus tours and one-on-one meetings with an admission counselor. To schedule a visit, call (740) 826-8137.
