The Everyday Humanities series, sponsored by the Way Public Library of Perrysburg, and in collaboration with the University of Toledo’s Humanities Institute presents: When the Blues Come to Town: U2, Gary Clark Jr. & the Blues Apprenticeship. Speaker Kimberly Mack, PhD., will consider the authenticity of modern blues music by examining a 1987 collaboration between blues artist B.B. King and the rock band U2. King was an opening act during U2’s Joshua Tree tour.
Mack will also explore the career of African American blues guitarist Gary Clark Jr. and his collaborations with many rock-and-roll musicians. The public is welcome to come participate in the conversation Feb. 1 2017, at the Way Public Library, 101 E. Indiana Avenue, Perrysburg. The 45-minute talk is free and will begin at 7 p.m. Mack is an assistant professor of English at the University of Toledo. Her emphasis is on 20th and 21st century African American literature.
