For Comfort and Convenience: Public Charity in Ohio By Way of the Poor Farm

September 1, 2019 - February 15, 2021

For Comfort and Convenience: Public Charity in Ohio by Way of the Poor Farm, features 120 documentary photographs of and objects from former public charity sites in Ohio. The exhibit examines the establishment of the poor farm, its rebranding in 1850s as the infirmary, and again in 1919 as the county home, by exploring the relationship between the poor farm buildings and the care of inmates, the changing management style of public charity, and ultimately influencing public perception about institutional life in Ohio.
