The Past Made Present: The 2016 WYSO Archives Digital Humanities Symposium
October 21, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
With funding support by Ohio Humanities, WYSO Public Radio will host its first Archives Digital Humanities Symposium Oct, 20-21, 2016. The symposium convenes in October in recognition of American Archives Month.
The Ohio Humanities grant has enabled WYSO to include a keynote address by Willa Seidenberg, PhD, and William Short, PhD, Oct 20, from 7-9 p.m. They will speak about their efforts to collect and share Vietnam-era stories through oral histories and photographs. This keynote address is free and open to the public.
Seidenberg is a Professor of Professional Practice at the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism. Short is a Los Angeles-based artist, educator and photographer. They’re also Antioch College alumni. As a team, they have produced the combined oral and photo history project, A Matter of Conscience: GI Resistance During the Vietnam War (published in 1992), and Memories of the American War: Stories From Vietnam, which they gathered stories from the Vietnamese about their experiences with Americans during the war.
