Want a little spooky in your life? Look no further. Aaron Mahnke’s book The World of Lore: Monstrous Creatures is here. The book is about different folklore, beliefs, and superstitions that go back ages but continue to be present in today’s society. Stories are told of vampires, demons, werewolves, and other mysterious creatures. If you like folklore and history you will probably like this book.

The World of Lore: Monstrous Creatures is the first book in a series. But you don’t need to read them in order—you can just read what interests you. This book features stories from the Lore podcast, also created by Aaron Mahnke. I listened to the audiobook through my local library. The audiobook is basically like listening to the podcast. Aaron Mahnke narrates both the podcast and the audiobook. Personally I like the podcast better because the episodes are short stories that are bitesize rather than a longer narrative.

Overall I would give the book a 3 out of 5—it is basically the podcast remade as a book. I listened to the podcast first, and it is shorter and I can pick and choose what I want to listen to. I like the content and enjoyed it. If you are interested in learning about folklore and history check out The World of Lore: Monstrous Creatures or listen to the podcast.
