Superman’s Cleveland Conference: It’s a Bird! It’s a Plane! It’s a Cultural Icon!

October 14, 2023 @ 9:00 am 7:00 pm

In honor of the 85th anniversary of the creation of Superman in Cleveland, Ohio, Ursuline College and the Ohio Center for the Book at Cleveland Public Library are hosting a conference dedicated to exploring the first superhero’s connections to the city of Cleveland, his relationship to the broader cultural environment, and Superman’s legacy within the medium of comics itself. The day will include workshops, speakers, and sessions culminating in a keynote conversation between Dr. Brad Ricca, author of Super Boys: The Amazing Adventures of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster–the Creators of Superman, and renowned comics-writing icon Mark Waid of DC, Marvel, Boom! Studios, Humanoid Publishing! Part of the Superman’s Cleveland: Lineage and Legacy series of events of the Ohio Center for the Book in collaboration with Ursuline College Rust Belt Humanities Lab.
